MOONG DAAL PAYASA

Moong daal payasa is a traditional South Indian sweet recipe which is cooked during festivals as neyveidyam. Moong daal acts as a cooling agent to reduce the body heat hence it is made more often during summer. Also it reduces stress and helps to sleep better.

Ingredients:

1. Moong daal – 1 Cup

2. Jaggery – 1 and 1/2 Cup

3. Cardamom – 5

4. Grated coconut – 1/4 Cup

5. Poppy seeds – 2 Table spoon

6. Cashewnut and Rasins

Procedure for making moong daal payasa:

1. Fry moong daal in a pan until it leaves out roasted aroma.

2. Cook fried moong daal adding 1 Cup of water in a cooker for about 8-10 minutes.

3. Fry poppy seeds for 4-5 minutes and grind it with grated coconut.

4. Add jaggery to the cooked moong daal and stir well.

5. Add the above prepared coconut and poppy seed mixture and cardamom to the cooker and let it simmer.

6. Roast cashew nut and rasins with 1 Spoon of ghee and add to the payasa.

Serves : 3


SECRET TIPS:

Fry moong daal nicely or it will become sticky.
