Sweet pongal is a tasty and delicious South Indian sweet recipe made with rice, ghee, jaggery or sugar, moong daal and cardamom.
Ingredients:
1. Rice – 1 Cup 2. Moong daal – 1/2 Cup 3. Jaggery – 2 cup 4. Cardamom – 4 5. Ghee – 1/4 Cup 6. Grated coconut – 1/2 Cup
Procedure for making sweet pongal:
1. Fry the moong daal until it turns golden brown. 2. Add the roasted moong daal to rice with 3 cups of water ( double the cup of rice and moong daal) and cook for 15-20minutes. 3. Take jaggery in a pan, add 1/4 cup of water and let it boil. Add 3-4 tablespoons of ghee. Boil until it thickens lightly. Add the cardamom once it starts boiling.
4. Add the cooked rice and moong daal mixture and mix well.
5. Add the grated coconut to the pan and give it a good mix. 5. Let it cook for 10minutes in a medium flame. 6. Add ghee once it’s done. Serves: 4 You can also add cashew nut and rasins fried with ghee.
SECRET TIPS:
Dry roast the moong daal nicely so that it won’t become sticky.
